SONATA in G major, Op. 14 No. 2

Together with sonata opus 14 no 1, sonata no 10, opus 14 no 2 in G, ist the first sonata of which the faster movements are not characterized by dramatic contrasts. In sonata no 10, Beethoven allows one motive to flow organically from the other.

The first movement, allegro, is lyrical and pastoral in character and lasts till the development. The development is slightly more dramatic, but there are no sharp contrasts. The andante is the first variation part in a Beethoven sonata. Some variations are lyrical, but humor predominates, especially in the final chord. The scherzo: allegro assai begins, just like the first movement, rhythmically ambiguous and ends very funny.

The music, in rustic style, seems to build up to a brilliant ending, but instead with a few bass notes it is suddenly over.

1. Allegro
2. Andante
3. Scherzo Allegro assai
